The Japanese casual wear brand Uniqlo is set to expand the line up of its kidswear and babywear offerings by nearly 50 percent with the launch of new Fall/Winter 2014 season collections.

The brand, which is trying to bring up the children’s clothing on par with its men’s and women’s ranges, is aiming to double up its sales by making the newly unveiled kids’ lines available at 679 stores (which is about 60 percent more than the previous sales points comprised of 429 outlets).

In order to make the new line-up easier to browse, the brand’s newly opened sales floors, which are located outside the urban centres, feature separate dedicated sections for kids and babies.

The company has also launched a new childrenswear only website uniqlo.com/jp/kidscommunity to facilitate easier shopping at home or on the go.

Designed to meet the active lifestyle of children, the new collection is made from a revolutionary lightweight and highly functional insulating polyester fibre jointly developed with Toray Industries. The specially processed cube shaped synthetic material is more durable and allows repeated washing while effectively retaining warmth.

With a special focus on girls’ clothing, the kids’ line features dresses, skirts and cardigans in a variety of colours and patterns The range also offers warm padded outerwear series that includes coats, jackets, parkas and vests.

Uniqlo had founded its kids' and babies’ lines in the years 1997 and 2002 respectively.
