Oman Observer reported that Sohar based steel pipes manufacturer Al Jazeera Steel Products has decided to cease exports to Canada following Ottawa's decision to impose steep anti dumping duties on its pipe products.

Last week, Al Jazeera Steel announced that the Canada International Trade Tribune had imposed an anti-dumping duty amounting to 54.2% on its pipe exports to the North American nation. The measure came despite an earlier ruling by the Tribunal that Al Jazeera's Steel's products caused no "injury" to local steel manufacturers.

It had said "Further to our disclosure on the above subject, we would like to inform the shareholders the Canada International Trade Tribune has imposed 54.2 per cent dumping duty on our pipe imports to Canada. Even though the Tribunal made a determination that dumped imports originating in Oman have not caused injury, it found that these imports could threaten and cause injury to the Canadian industry in future."

It further added that "As our business interest in Canada are limited, and the potential of our speculative volumes not substantial we have decided not to export to Canada and there shall be no impact in the operation of the company."
